Panasonic is the leader in plasma sales, and the company's panels have consistently rated highest in picture quality. This year, Panasonic has more plasma models than any other manufacturer and has led the charge in reducing plasma prices across the board. In short, Panasonic is clearly the plasma brand to beat. The company splits its plasmas into two general categories: professional and consumer. The professional models, such as the TH-PWD8UK and TH-PHD8UK series below, are ostensibly intended for commercial use, but they're very popular among general buyers for a number of reasons.
First, they usually cost less than the consumer models. Second, they include more picture-customization options as well as upgradable inputs. On the other hand, they lack tuners, speakers, and many inputs found on the consumer models. We've reviewed the 37-inch TH-37PHD8K and the 50-inch TH-50PHD8UK and given both of them an Editors' Choice award. We expect all five professional models to perform just as well as these two, although the EDTV versions naturally won't offer as much detail with HDTV and computer sources.
