What is an HDTV Receiver? |
An HDTV receiver is essentially a device that receives and decodes high definition TV signals. HDTV receivers are needed along with a High Definition Ready TV set to view high definition programming. Sometimes an HDTV receiver is also referred to as an HDTV tuner or HDTV decoder.
Prior to purchase you should find out if the TV you are buying has a built in HDTV receiver. Usually they have a built in receiver or tuner. If your HDTV does not have a receiver built in, it will state that it is HD Ready. A HDTV receiver will help you enjoy your high definition programming and will usually add features and functions to your TV.
You should ensure whether you plan on watching high definition TV directly broadcast from the TV station or through the HDTV signal from cable TV or satellite TV provider. Most of the time, many providers can provide you with a set top box that also includes an HDTV receiver.
If you are thinking of buying an HDTV receiver, you should know about the many features available. Most HDTV receivers allow you to switch from high definition broadcasts back to standard TV broadcasts with ease. Some HDTV receivers require you to manually switch back and forth and can be very inconvenient.
One thing to look for is the ability to hook up components to your HDTV receiver. Look for receivers that have outputs for High Definition Multimedia Interface capability, S-Video and digital audio. You could also get parental controls installed. |
